South Bay Black Nurses Association, Inc. offer scholarships twice a year.
These scholarships range from $500.00 to $1500.00. Scholarships may be renewable.

Membership and active participation in South Bay Black Nurses Association is expected.

Scholarship Requirements

1. Candidate currently enrolled in a nursing program (LVN, ADN, BSN, MSN, etc.) and in good scholastic standing at the time of application.
2. Must be a member of SBBNA
3. Completed Scholarship Application
4. Completed Verification of Enrollment
5. Essay: not to exceed two (2) type-written, double-spaced pages. Essay to include: description of extracurricular activities and community involvement. Your ideas of what you can do as an individual nurse to improve the health status and/or social condition of African Americans, a statement about your future goals in nursing, and why you believe you should be awarded a scholarship.
6. Two (2) letters of recommendation (one from applicant's school of nursing or a SBBNA member and one from church, civic, or community group applicant has been involved with).
7. Applicants must have at least one year of school remaining.
8. The awardees must be present at the Scholarship Fund-Raiser Event to receive the award and be prepared to respond with a few words of appreciation for the award.
9. The awardees must attend the first meeting of the following year.
10. The awardees must be willing to accept a community service activity that is congruent with SBBNA’s mission statement to participate in that year.

Scholarship Deadlines:

For Fall Semester: May 1 (Awarded in June)

For Spring Semester: October 13 (Awarded in October)

Application and all supporting documents must be received by the end of business on the deadline date.

Scholarship winners will be notified by May 15 and November 10.
Scholarship awards will be presented at the annual Graduation Dinner in June and the annual Scholarship Banquet in November.
